Similarities
The first principle of NAEYC especially the sections P-1.2 and first principle of AASEP P-1 (with 1-A,1-B AND 1-C are similar conceptually similar and both emphasize the holistic development and growth of children The NAEYC Principle P-1.2—We shall care for and educate children in positive emotional and social environments that are cognitively stimulating and that support each child’s culture, language, ethnicity, and family structure. The AASEP Principle I subsection underline the following: I-A. Academy Members promote growth in all students through the integration of academic, psychological, physical, and social learning. I-B. Academy Members respect the inherent dignity and worth of the children with whom they work I-C. Academy Members help children with special needs to value their own identity, learn more about their disabilities, and help them reflect on their own learning and connect it to their life experience.
The principle 5 of AASEP and the ethical section II (ethical responsibilities to families) of NAEYC also are similar and both focus upon development of trust and collaboration with family members of the children.
The principle IV of AASEP and the Ethical section III subsection – A (Ethical Responsibilities to Colleagues – Responsibilities towards coworkers) of NAEYC both emphasize the importance of developing a climate of mutual trust, support, and collaboration with colleagues at workplace.
Differences –
NAEYC ethical section -3 (subsections – B,C) outline guidelines about ‘Responsibilities to employers’ and ‘Responsibilities to employees’ and section -4 outlines ‘Ethical Responsibilities to Community and Society’ but there is no such guidelines similar to section – 3 (subsection –B,C) and Section -4 mentioned in AASEP.
In AASEP Principles –II and III outline code of conduct for application of their professional knowledge and their professional development respectively. There is no such guideline mentioned in NYEYC.
