Question

Excel for MAC

Either me or my machine is going crazy.

I use Excel at the office on a PC, I have a MAC at home.

at home, i have started to have problems in how excel behaves - is it me? is the program? is it the version?

I have Excel 2004, v 11.6.6

I am doing some budgeting, so i have a sspreadsheet of dates, dollar amounts. I imported this csv file into excel.

In excel I added a text comment field for my budget category (groceries, traavel, etc).

my objective is to have the summed amounts for each of my budget categories.

I applied a filter, so that I can view one category at a time.

However, when I try to get a sum for the filtered records (e.g. only "travel" records), i get the most terrible mess and no dollar values!

I have done this a thousand times at work so I know I should be able to get the answer!

also, I am unable to change the date format through cell format.

I would appreciate any ideas - tthis is a little exercise that iss starting to take uup way too much time, no results.

thanks.

Explanation / Answer

What happens when you change the cell format, do yo get any error mmessage???

As a test copy the contents too new file, then save the new file with new name

Clear all the formats in the newly saved file and theen re-apply if this helps. If the file does not have any confidential data then upload it, however if it contains any then please do not upload.
