Question
Excel find text function
I have the following column
RoadNo
A354
ZU116
ZC38
I need to be able to get the first character out of the road number and into a new column called 'roadclass' if it starts with an A, B, C etc which is fine, but how do i get the second character out if the road number starts with a 'Z'. There are about 85000 records that needs extracting so this would need to check each one inturn for both the first and then second character.
What I am trying to achieve is below:-
RoadNo RoadClass
A354 A
ZU116 U
ZC38 C
Thanks in advance !!

Hi..
Put this in a cell and drag downn.. If you put it in a column next to your data column and double click the fill handle it will fill down automatically.
=MID(A2,1+(LEFT(A2,1)="Z"),1)
