Question

Excel Formula for unhighlighting one Cell when text input into another

Hello, Could someone please tell me if it's possible or how I create a formula for the following:

I have text in Column F which is Highlighted/filled with Yellow. In Column C I would like to put a 'Y' in it to indicate the text is approved for publishing and when the Y appears, the highlighting in Column F disappears (leaving just the text).

Any help would be appreciated. And How to input this formula. I am quite new to Excel...

Thanks for your help.

Explanation / Answer

....You can do this with conditional formatting instead of a formula.

Select F1:F1000, or whichever part of column F you want to apply the formatting to.

I'll assume that F1 is the active cell within the selection.##$

On the Home tab of the ribbon, click Conditional Formatting > New Rule...

Select 'Use a formula to determine which cells to format'.

Enter the formula

=$C1="Y"

Click Format...

Activate the Fill tab.

Select "No Color".

Click OK, then click OK again.
