Question
Assume that the confidence of the decision rule, 1 rightarrow 2, is 100%. Is the confidence of the decision rule, 2 rightarrow 1, also 100%? Give an example of data to justify your answer. Assume that the numerals in the following association rules and large sequences identify different music files that customers downloaded on the Internet in the same sessions or multiple sessions. As a consultant to Amazon.com, make a recommendation to your client based on each of the following association rule. 1 rightarrow 2 with low support, high confidence and lift = n where n is large. 1 rightarrow 2 with high support, high confidence and lift is close to 0. with high support with high supportExplanation / Answer
c. Not necessarily.
Confidence of 1-> 2 is given by Support Count(1,2) / Support Count(1)
Confidence of 2 -> 1 is given by Support Count(1,2) / Support Count(2)
Though Support Count(1,2) is common, it is not necessary that Support Count(1) and Support Count(2) should be same.
d. i. 1 -> 2 would be recommended since the confidence level is high and confidence / expected_confidence = n is large. Hence we can be sure that 1 and 2 would be related.
ii. Not recommended since lift is close to 0. If the confidence level is very less than expected_confidence, lift would be cloe to 0.
iii & iv. High support alone not sufficient to make recommendation about the product.
