Question
Assignment: Analyze this experience in your own words:
Developing an executive development program can be difficult for many reasons some of which were discussed in the textbook. “These people are at the top of the organization, making it difficult for them to ask for help or even be aware they need it” (Thacker & Blanchard, 2013). It can also be difficult to help them with development because they are executive you have to make sure that whoever is speaking to them will have their attention. The discussion with the CEO and the Board of Directors is needed to be able to understand what is needed.
My question would be as follows:
What business issues or challenges need to be discussed? Are there any areas of the business that need special attention or to be more in-depth than others? Are there specific competencies that were focused on in the last developmental program for executives or any specific areas that we need to focus? What do they want to be accomplished from this program? Will the development be on going or just delivered and revisited later? How long does this training need to last? Location that they want it rolled out? And also a timeframe. What is the budget for this program? Who will give this training? Are they are interested in an outside source/third party or for me to process. From the discussion with the Board and the CEO I would recommend that coaching be involved to further develop the executives. I would recommend that we have a plan for mentoring the executives also. A collaborative and engaging learning environment is needed for these type of employees to be comfortable and be able to learn so I would recommend that we have it somewhere relaxing and away for the stress of their normal working environment.
