Microsoft exchange is the server which is used most by almost all the organisations for messaging purpose. This involves lot of data. This exchange server in any organisation must be always highly available all the time.
Exchange should be implemented as virtual server in order to get better results. Now a days all the organisations are moving to setup a new vitual server infrastructure for this exchange. Exchange in virtual results in low cost maintainence so that cost burden will be reduced, not only for this it also provides other handfull of services which can strive easily than with physical server.
The main important reasons for the exchange implemented in virtual server is.
High availability:- If exchnage is used in virtual server. The virtual server makes the exchnage higher availability all the times. Even when the host fails in virtual server the other host will quickly respond and make exchnage available in no time.
Disaster Recovery:- Disaster recovery will be very simple in virtual server. Virtual server technology makes the disaster recovery and exchange recovery time dratically decreses. Which means in the very short time recovery will be possible
Efficient use of resources :- Virtual server makes the use of the resources efficiently. Generally there will be redundant resources in physical servers inorder to provide the service highly available . These redundency is also provided by the virtual servers and even more efficienlty use these resources in order to make the exchange will work most efficiently.
If we use physical servers for exchange the maintainence cost will be very high.
Also the data recovery will be very time consuming, in sometimes it is not even possible to get all the data back when the server corrupted or crashed.
Also to provide redundent services the physical server requires more money inorder to setup and to maintain those redundent services. But in virtual server the redundent services is also cost effective.
