Explanation / Answer
1.
The organizational chart in any Organization helps to label and highlight the structure of the Organization in a definite manner. To explain the same in details, let us take an example of a Hospital as an Organization and try to relate the importance of an Organizational chart pertaining to the same:
Let us assume, I work for a Hospital. The Organizational structure of my Hospital is divided into various levels of management based upon the management skills and expertise that ensures efficiency in the running of my Hospital. The structure is so designed that the unity of command across all the levels of the management is maintained well. The primary step that involved the Organizational structure in my Hospital was to group various departments together in order to establish efficiency towards a particular facility. These departments are grouped as per the similarity of the duties that these departments undertake so that in case of contingencies in Organizational Design, it becomes easier to identify the departments accountable for the same or to seek help particular from that set of departments that are grouped together to deal with a contingency with more knowledge and skill.
Our Hospital, being a large and a little complex one, the departments are grouped as per the kinds of activities that they offer to the patients such as the Administrative services, various informational services, Therapeutic and Diagnostic services or Support services. Under the Top-most pyramid of the Organizational chart, the Administrative services take the position at the peak that includes The CEO, Executive Officers or any Departmental heads that are responsible for formulation of overall organization’s mission and vision statement and further dividing it into the Departmental goals to realize the same. Administrative members are hence all such members of the hospital who basically plan and run the entire activity of our Hospital. Be it financial budgeting or formulation of Hospital’s governing policies, it is primarily planned by the Administrative department. Next comes the Informational services that involve various document or process related information pertaining to the billing and collection information or patient’s information stored either in computer or on physical modes, MIS, Human Resource Management, etc. The Therapeutic Services would include all sorts of services offered in terms of therapies to the patients such as speech therapy, any occupational or even Physical therapy. Various other therapies as offered as services to the patients such as in the field of medical, respiratory or social services could also be included here. The next level of management includes the Diagnostic services wherein there is an examination of any injury or illness as suffered by the patients in order to establish the causes behind the same which could include various laboratory testing, Various image testing such as X-ray or CT Scan, any emergency medical services, etc The support services, is at the bottom of the pyramid which forms the base for the entire hospital by offering vast range of support services that are essential for the smooth running of the entire Hospital and includes services pertaining to House-keeping or maintenance, any centralized supply of stock and equipments, any biomedical services such as repairing of medical equipments or designing of the same, etc.
In terms of Organizational chart especially useful in the times of contingencies, it is primarily ruled by the Board of Directors in my Hospital under which the Administrative Department plays an important role. The Admin department further gets diluted into various sub-departments such as Information services, Therapeutic services, Diagnostic and Support services. This is how my entire Hospital is well organized and the activities are clarified as per the Organizational chart in place.
