Question

At a company function, a top executive corners you and complains that your department is wasting too much money. The executive demands to know why the company must spend so much money on computers and software, especially operating systems and related licenses (for closed source programs and operating systems). Write a report that defends your department by explaining the nature of hardware, software, and operating systems. In the report, be sure to explain how OSS and the Linux operating system can be used to reduce these costs in the long term.

Explanation / Answer

Because it is a critical business and the client work we do I strongly suggest that the hardware and software should be purchased from the trusted vendor like hp , lenovo, Microsoft etc.

With the quality hardware systems will not get troubles easily and with the licensed softwares like windows and Microsoft softwares etc.

Because of this licensed softwares applications and hardwares will be more secure and free from virus and phishing etc. All the support will be taken care by the vendors.

Because of this reason and to maintain the utmost security for the client data and applications we need to setup all this environment. That's why my department is spending that much amount.

Although these days we are using this closed source programs in the long run we can use open source softwares which are free to use and also we can customise our own way with our developer's. Also the open source softwares like Linux systems will have good security and also we don't need to pay anything because there is no vendors for these. This will reduce these software costs.
