You will remember that this technique provides tracking on a part or product which can be important during the development stages. Assume that you are a manager for an auto manufacturer and you are looking to track your brake pads for a new model vehicle that is coming out. Please explain why you feel it is important that lot traceability be used to monitor your product. Lets use Jeep

Lot traceability is a reverse mechanism, which lets you know the problem with a particular lot after the occurrence of the problem. For a manager, lot traceability helps him in selection of the suppliers of a particular component.

Now as the given situation, let us consider three supplier of the same component brake pads, Supplier A, Supplier B and Supplier C. After one month the sales team prepare a feedback report for the product development team. In that report they mention that product is generating expected amount of buzz in market and being a month old product response from the market is better than the expected. Apart from this sales team also mention one more point is that, they have received few complaints till now about the brake pads. sales team mentioned that they recive 120 complaints for this issue from California, 52 complaints from Arizona, and 17 complaints Nevada. After getting this report manager look out for the state wise supplier for the break pad. and found out from the supplier details that the supplier B has supplied break pad in Nevada state plant, Supplier A in California plant and Supplier C in Arizona Plant.

Hence manager passed the same feedback to different suppliers and ask them to work according otherwise supplier B will be the sole supplier for all the three states. This example shows how lot tracebility hepl in product development.
