Slavery has been an accepted part of most societies covered in this course, though in the future most would seek its abolition. Discuss the implications of this for human progress.

Explanation / Answer

One possible reason for the differences between the results of exploration and trade by the Chinese explorers any by the European states is the Chinese intentions was for trading. Chinese silk, porcelain, and lacquer ware were exchanged for spices, ivory, rear woods, medicines, and pearls with Arab and African merchants in the ports around the Indian Ocean. The Chinese had used these exports to expand and protect their empire. The second reason is that the European states focused their explorations to colonize the lands they have traveled to. The European explorers had wanted to conquer many lands in hopes to find wealth and imports such as spices, (nutmeg, etc.) and luxury goods, (gold, etc). The European explorers also had Religious aims to spread Christianity through the lands surrounding the Indian Ocean in attempt to force the Muslim religion out.

The one aspect of the transatlantic slave trade is that five percent (450,000) Africans slaves who had survived the Middle Passage transported during the international slave trades was embarked on North America's shores. Brazil and Angola countries had received nine times as many Africans, approximately (4,050,000) slaves. Slavery was horrific! Many Africans was stripped of their identities, shackled under deck, subjected to abuse and punishment. Many Africans had died during the slave trade. Twenty percent of slave had died from malnutrition, diseases, and suicide.
