d. Why is Google threatened by Facebook’s dark Web?

e. Do you think the dark Web is enough to draw users to a Facebook search product over Google? Why or why not?

Explanation / Answer

a. Benefits of social media

The current generation i.e. Gen Z, Gen Alpha and millennials are totally addicted to social media. Every aspect of their life from making friends to reading book, posting pictures, playing games, shopping, etc. is accessed through the social media. This was not the case with Xennials and Baby Boomers. They did not enjoy much coverage of social media and hence, they are free from its addiction.

b. Crowd sourced ratings can be used by online product and service sellers to bluff the customers. Many tech-savvy customers have a habit of reading past customer reviews before buying anything online or buying a service. With the help of crowd sourced ratings, the original and genuine ratings of the product and service offering can be bluffed and thus has negative ethical implications.

Such kind of risks can be avoided when only genuine buyers and customers are allowed to give online rating to products and services.

c. The dark web is a portion of web, which has remain untouched and unnoticed by various web browsers. This dark web comprises the untouched corners of web, where privacy is maintained and no eavesdropping can happen. The dark web can be assets to Facebook as then the users can care freely interact with one another, without the fear of any kind of privacy violation.

d. Google is a web browser who has not been able to notice and detect the dark web. The web service engine will not be able to access such corner sides of web and hence the competitive advantage catered by Facebook through the dark web, can’t be enjoyed by web browsers like Google.

e. In my views, even after getting competitive advantage through the dark web, Facebook search engine will not be able to garner popularity like Google as Google has such a huge fan and user base that the company’s name has become synonym to the art of searching answers. Google has a loyal and huge customer base, which can remain affected even after launch of Facebook’s web service.
