Question
Calculate the concentration of ions in the following saturated solutions. (a) [I ] in AgI solution with [Ag+] = 7.2 10-9 M(b) [Al3+] in Al(OH)3 solution with [OH ] = 2.2 10-9 Calculate the concentration of ions in the following saturated solutions. (a) [I ] in AgI solution with [Ag+] = 7.2 10-9 M
(b) [Al3+] in Al(OH)3 solution with [OH ] = 2.2 10-9 Calculate the concentration of ions in the following saturated solutions. (a) [I ] in AgI solution with [Ag+] = 7.2 10-9 M
(b) [Al3+] in Al(OH)3 solution with [OH ] = 2.2 10-9
Explanation / Answer
Ans. (a) AgI(aq) = Ag+(aq) + I- (aq)
AgI dissociates into Ag+ and I- and concentration of Ag+ and I- will be equal
[I-] = [Ag+] = 7.2 * 10^-9 M
(b) Al(OH)3 = Al3+ + 3OH-
[Al3+] = (1/3) * [OH-] = 0.333 * 2.2 * 10^-9 = 7.326 * 10^-10 M
