Question
Calculate the total number of atoms in 0.55 gNH4NO3this is what i got
molar mass= 80.05200
mass=0.55
so
0.55/80.05200=0.006875
**solution** = Avogadro's number* 0.006875 = 4.14022228 ×1021

A sample of an unknown biochemical compound is found to have apercent composition of 57.14% carbon, 6.17% hydrogen, 9.52%nitrogen and the balance oxygen. What is the empirical formula forthis compound ?
my answer is : C7N1H9O2
Explanation / Answer
Ans for first question:: U are doing it right but remember you have tocalculate the total number of atoms. In your approach youare calculating total number of molecules, not the atoms. Each molecule has 9 atoms(Important). So the answer is =====> 9*Avogadro'snumber * 0.006875 = 37.2620005×1021 Q2) For the second answer the last ratio u get is C:H:N:O==7:9:1:2.48 (isn't it) so the formula is C7H9N1O3 (IF THIS WRONG THEN LET ME KNOW).
