Explanation / Answer
M.Wt of NaHCO3 = 84
M.Wt of citric acid = 192
now mole of NaHCO3 = wt /M.wt = 1/84 = 0.0119
since citric acid is a tri basic acid one mole of it requires 3 mole of NaOH
hence mole of citric acid = 0.0119/3 = 0.0039
now wt of citric acid = 0.004 * M.wt = 0.0039 * 192 = 0.76 g
Now NaHCO3 ---- > NaOH + CO2
its clear that one mole of NaHCO3 gives one mole of CO2
1 g NaHCO3 corresponds to 0.00119 mole of CO2
hence wt of CO2 = 0.0019 * M.wt of CO2 = 0.0019 * 44 = 0.523 g
