Explanation / Answer
The last Ice Age of Earth happened during the Pleistocene Epoch (1.8 million years ago to 11,700 years ago) of the Quarternary Period of Cenozoic Era.
The Pleistocene Ice age started at about 2.58 million years ago during the Late Pliocene Epoch of the Cenozoic Era and stopped at 10,000 years ago, after the end of the Pleistocene Epoch.
The Pleistocene Ice Age started and spread from the Northern Hemisphere. Greenland, Arctic Ice Sheets and Antarctic Ice Sheets dominate the Pleistocene Ice Age which is most recent.
Ice Ages are alternated by Glacial Periods and Interglacial Periods. Glacial Periods are characterized by cold climate and glacial advances and interglacial periods are characterized by warm climate and glacial retreats.
The 5 major Ice Ages that occurred on Earth are:
1. Huronian (2.4 to 2.1 Billion years)
2. Cryogenian (850 to 630 million years)
3. Andean-Saharan (460 to 420 million years)
4. Karoo (360 to 260 million years)
5. Quarternary i.e. Pleistocene (2.58 million to 10,000 years ago)
The Earth is currently reigning in an interglacial period.
