Question
What was the capacitance of the unknown capacitor? Include the uncertainty and units with your answer. Do any of the data points on your graph have a significantly larger deviation than the rest? These points are "outliers" and could be due to a problem with the experimental technique used to make the measurement. If an "outliers" and is removed from the data set, the slope changes significantly. Do you have any outliers? If you have an outlier, remove it from the data set and re-analyze the data to determine the capacitance. What is the capacitance without the outlier if you had one? RC circuits are often used as timers, and can control delayed actions such as pushing a button and then having a light go off after 10 seconds. If you wanted to shorten the amount of time it takes before the light goes off to 8 seconds, how would you change the resistance of the RC circuit?Explanation / Answer
questions 1,2 and 3 are strictly dependent on the data which you might have acquired in your lab. since these data are not provided here, hence its not possible to answer them.
4.
Tthe time constant of a RC circuit is given by = RC
so in order to reduce the time after which light goes off, we need to decrease the value of , ie R has to be decreased, assuming C is constant.
Use proper values of R and C and substitute in the formula to get the desired.
initially, initial = 10 s = R10sC ........eq1
later, 8s =8 s =R8 C ........eq2
now eq1 / eq2 gives :: 10/8 = R10sC / R8 C
or 0.8 = R8 /R10s
R8 = 0.8 R10s
using above relation R value for 8s delay can be found out.
