Question
A concave spherical mirror has a radius of curvature of 9.00 cm .
part b) Calculate the size of the image formed by an 9.00 mm -tall object whose distance from the mirror is 18.0 cm .
part d) Calculate the size of the image formed by an 9.00 mm -tall object whose distance from the mirror is 9.00 cm .
part e) Calculate the location of the image formed by an 9.00 mm -tall object whose distance from the mirror is 2.25 cm .
part g) Calculate the location of the image formed by an 9.00 mm -tall object whose distance from the mirror is 10.0 m .
Explanation / Answer
focal length of concave mirror, f = +9cm
b) using mirror equation,
1/f = 1/di + 1/do
1/9 = 1/di + 1/18
di = 18 cm
m = -(di/d0) = hi/ ho
- (18/18) = hi / 9mm
hi = - 9mm
so size of image is 9mm. (inverted)
d) when d0 = 9cm
di = infinite
so image will be infinitly large.
e) 1/9 = 1/di + 1/2.25
di = -3 cm
hi / 9mm = - (-3/2.25)
hi = 12 mm
f) 1/9 = 1/di + 1/10
di = 90 cm
hi / 9mm = -90 /10
hi = - 81 mm
size of image = 81 mm (inverted)
