Limit 1 Page Rosalind Franklin studied physics and chemistry at the University of Cambridge. In the decade of the 40's she obtained her doctorate and focused her work on various techniques, among the most important the X- ray diffraction. Until then Maurice Wilkins had obtained some confusing images about the structure of DNA, however, when Franklin enters his laboratory she obtains by means of the X-ray diffraction, the B face of the hydrated DNA, backbone of the DNA. At the time, James Watson and Francis Crick, acquired an interest in the structure of DNA, their main task was the collection of multiple data acquired by other researchers. They speculated on a 3D model of DNA. When Watson and Crick looked at the image obtained by Franklin, they suggested that it may be a helical structure. The following year the Nature magazine published the structure suggested by Watson and Crick. The works of Franklin and Wilkins were as outstanding and important as those of Watson and Crick in the work of elucidating the structure of DNA. In 1962 Watson, Crick and Wilkins won the Nobel Prize for their work in the discovery of DNA, however, it could not be for Franklin because the prize is not awarded posthumous.

Explanation / Answer

Wilkins ,Watson and Crick got noble prize for double helical model of DNA .Franklin died of cancer so could not receive the prize.

Watson and Crick were more well known because they put together all scattered fragments of information that were required to produce successful molecular model of double helical DNA. By using unpublished bata from several scientist Watson and Crick proved in a published paper that DNA is double helix rather than single or triple helix.
