Question
Chapter 06, Problem 40 GO The drawing shows two boxes resting on frictionless ramps. One box is relatively ight and sits on a steep ramp. The other box is heavier and ramps. The two boxes have rests on a ramp that is less steep. The boxes are released from rest at A and allowed to slide down the the heavier box to that of the lighter box at 8? the heavwer box to that of the lighter box at8ox when each reaches B. (c) what is the ratio of the kinetic energy of on Concepts Units (b) VB Version 4.24.5.1 q, 644 PMExplanation / Answer
Applying energy conservation,
PEi + KEi = PEf + KEF
m g hA + 0 = m g hB + m v^2 /2
v = sqrt(2g (hA - hB))
v = sqrt(2 x9.8 x (3.5-1)) = 7 m/s
{independent of mass}
(A) v = 7 m/s
(B) v = 7 m/s
(C) KE = m v^2 / 2
v is same for both.
KE_heavy / KE_light = M / m = 40/9
= 4.44
