Question

I have a four feet by 24 ft swimming pool in my back yard and I was just wondering what is the volume of water that this pool will hold and what is the weight of the water in the pool. My second question is that if I lie down in the bottom in the middle of that pool, what are the pressure and force acting on my 5'9, 225 lbs body. Knowing that the volume of water in a 24 round pool is more than enough to crush an individual, what prevent it from happening? Please show your work and explanation. Thanks in advance.

Explanation / Answer

Volume of water=r2*h=122(4)=576 ft3

weight of water=density * volume

=0.062428 * 576=112.96 lbm

buoyancy force on the individual reduce the effect of gravitational force and thus prevent crush of an individual to happen
