A wheeled cart is launched with some initial speed up an inclined plane making an angle theta with the vertical. The bearings in the wheels have very little friction but are not perfect. In the figure theta is 45 degree . Is there some angle of the plane for which the cart will move at constant speed? Will it be large or small? Positive or negative? If we use better bearings in the wheels of the cart and streamline it to reduce air resistance, the angle at which the cart moves at constant speed will be different. How is it different? If we had a perfect cart with no friction in the bearings and no air resistance, at what angle would the cart move at constant speed?Explanation / Answer
A)the question is basically saying that the cart has small frictionand air friction, at what angle will the cart remain constantspeed. ofcourse, the theta will be small negative. the cart has to godownhill to go against the friction where the force of the gravityequals the force of friction. B) if less friction is present, then the negative theta angle willbe smaller, but it will still be negative. C) if there was no friction present, then cart will go at constantspeed when theta = 0 degree.
