Question

Chapter 05, Problem 082 In the overhead view of the figure, five forces pull on a box of mass m - 7.4 kg. The force magnitudes are F1 - 12 N, F2 19 N, F3 -3.4 N, F4-16 N, and Fs -6.0 N, and angle 64 is 29°. Find the (a) x-component and (b) y-component of the box's acceleration, and also give the acceleration as (c) a magnitude and (d) an angle relative to the positive direction of the x axis. (Note that the angle will be negative if it is below the horizontal.) Fo (a) Number Units Units| Units Units b)Number (c) Number (d) Number

Explanation / Answer

Net forces along x axis

Fx= 16 cos 29 - 12 + 3.4= 5.4 N

Net vertical forces

Fy= 6+ 16 sin 29 - 19= -5.243 N

===========

a)

ax= Fx/m= 5.4/7.4= 0.73 m/s^2

===========

b)

ay= Fy/m= -5.243/7.4= 0.709 m/s^2

==========

c) magnitude

a= sqrt(ax^2+ ay^2)= 1.048 m/s^2

=======

Angle= - arctan (0.709/0.73)= - 44.16

Comment in case any doubt.. good luck
