Question
A baseball approaches home plate at a speed of 50.0 m/s, moving horizontally just before being hit by a bat. The batter hits a pop-up such that after hitting the bat, the baseball is moving at 60 m/s in the x/y plane in a direction which makes an angle of 57 deg with the negative x axis. The ball has a mass of 150 g and is in contact with the bat for 3 ms. What is the average vector force the ball exerts on the bat during their interaction? Please don't treat this like a ball being popped straight up problem. I am looking find the behavior when Vf is at an angle. Thanks.Explanation / Answer
in this problem....momentum is changing in both direction ; change in momentum in x direction =0.150*(50+60cos57) ; change in momentum in y direction =0.150*(60sin57) ; force=change in momentum/t ; Fx=4133.92 N in - x directionand Fy=2516.01N in + y direction
