Question

A particle of mass 500mg and charge 85mC moves in a region of space where the electric field is uniform and is given by E=(3.5 N/Ci - 2.5 N/Cj) If the velocity of the particle at t=0 is given by vi=(75m/si + 95 m/sj).  What is the speed of the particle after two seconds?

I'm stuck on this question. Please show steps so that I can understand the answer. Thank you.

A particle of mass 500 mg and charge 85 mC movies in a region of space where the electric field is uniform and is given by E = (3.5 N/CL - 2.5 N/Cj). If the velocity of the particle at t = 0 is given by v1 = (75 m/si + 95 m/sj). What is the speed of the particle after two seconds?

Explanation / Answer

F= m*a = E*q

a = E*q/m = ((3.5i - 2.5j)*85*10^-6)/0.5 = 595*10^-3 i - 425*10^-3j

Vf = Vi + at = (75i + 95) + (595*10^-3 i - 425*10^-3j)*2

Vf = 73.81 i + 94.15j
