Question

We talked about gray tree frog males and how females prefer males with longer calls. Turns out larger males produce longer calls and females prefer males with larger body sizes. This leads to only a few large males getting most of the mating opportunities, and most males never mating at all. There are other ways, however, to get the same pattern of variance in male reproductive success WITHOUT females preferring males with long calls and large size. How might you get the same variance in male reproductive success via intrasexual selection?

Explanation / Answer

As per the statements explained above, some frogs will not make calls and be larger in size but still they can involve in breeding. How......? often in their first breeding season or otherwise disadvantaged, do not call to save energy. Instead, they lie in wait near a calling male and intercept the female by claiming the caller’s position after he moves away. The female only visits the breeding site to lay her eggs. Finally these eggs and sperms from who didnot make calls will be fused and form zygotes in water.
