What is there about the chemical composition of river water and seawater that explains the stratification of a surface layer of fresh river water floating on a layer of hypoxic seawater within water offshore of Louisiana ( or offshore of any river for that matter)?

Explanation / Answer

the chemical composittion of fresh water water is same as that of sea water because at the end river mixes with the sea . but in the river water all the elements are in less amount. Br and Sr present only in sea water. the avarage density of sea water is 35.5mg/litre which is much denser than fresh water. The density of salt is 2.16 grams per cubic centimetre vs. the maximum density of fresh water at 1 gram per cubic centimetre. A kilogram of sea water will have 35 grams of salt and 965 grams of fresh water. so when fresh water and sea water meeet each other the fresh water floats above the sea water .
