Question

If you have a 45kg block of iron and added 30 kcal of energy, how much would the temperature increase? What would the resistance be if a 3 ohm, 6 ohm, and 12 ohm resistor were connected in series? What color of light would have a frequency of 6.2 times 10 hertz? A 14kg kid sliding down a slide has 450J of energy: how fast is she going? If you have 120V going into a transformer with 300 turns on its primary coils and 125 turns on its secondary coil, what is the voltage out? My favorite radio station back home is 90.1 (FM which is 90.1 MHz), what is the period of this wave? How much work would be required to move a 6 kg rock 2 m across a table?

Explanation / Answer

1. Iron requires 500 Joules of energy per kg to increase its temperature by 1 degree celcius, so 30 kcal is equal to 125520 Joules of energy which is 2789 Joules given to each kg of iron. So each kg of iron would raise the temperature by nearly 5.5 degree celsius. In total the 45 kg mass would experience a temperature rise of 5.5 degree celsius.

2. When resistors are added in series

R=3+6+12=21 Ohms

3. 6.20 x 10 would just be sound waves. I am not sure if it is 10^something or just 10

4. nearly 8 km/sec
