Explanation / Answer
Taxing electric cars for mileage smacks of a predisposed negative opinion about them and are aimed at hurting people who own electric cars. Also the problem of implementing a measure as absurd as this would not be. Firstly, there is the issue of verifying the veracity of the numbers filled in by people. Secondly, if we are to integrate a device in every car for monitoring; who is to pay for its installation, maintenance and repair? Also what guarantees are being made about the accuracy of the device as well as the advantage of taxing electric cars and allowing other automobiles to go scot free.
The premise on which my argument rests is that by penalizing electric cars by imposing a mileage tax on them you’re driving people away from an eco-friendly technology to cars that guzzle gasoline and are proven to cause harm to the environment and have a detrimental impact on human health.
I am all for having a tax along similar lines for non-electric vehicles but cars that run on electricity should be exempt so as to encourage people from adopting them in even greater numbers as well as create an incentive for companies to move towards electric cars.
