Identify a business process that has ALREADY been improved with an Information System. Business process 3 should be an “As-Is” model of that business process before the information system was implemented and business process 4 should be a “To-Be” model of the business process after the information system was implemented. After modeling these processes, finish by writing descriptions of both the “As-Is” and “To-Be” processes in the same format as the descriptions of business processes 1 and 2 above and include as a formatted text box next to each diagram.

There are several examples of the business processes improved by Information System. The business process I have identified here is "Courier Service". Companies like FedEx, First Flight, etc have largely benefitted with the use of the information systems.
As-Is Model : This model is the traditional model. The couriers are received from the local offices and all the information like expected delivery date, delivery address, the item weight, the delivery person contact details are maintained in the local systems and then post delivery, the final details are sent from final delivery location to the local systems and in the mean time, the user is not aware of the latest status of the courier. He will everytime require to reach to local courier office to get the courier details.
To-Be Model : This model is the one having implemented the information system. The couriers are received from the local offices and all the information like expected delivery date, delivery address, the item weight, the delivery person contact details are maintained in the local systems and at the same time these are available for everyone related to the courier. The user can directly go to the portal and check the latest status of the parcel. The Courier company has reduced the cost of sending the stsus everytime as well as their process has been improved too.
