Stage 1: Forming

This is the first stage of the team development where every person of the team will meet each other management will share the common goal of the team. During this stage, it is important for the team leader to be very clear about team goals and provide clear direction regarding the project.

Stage 2: Storming

This stage is very important because a new team who has never worked together before goes through this part of developing as a team. In this stage, the team members compete with each other for status and for acceptance of their ideas.

Stage 3: Norming

The team has consciously or unconsciously formed working relationships that are enabling progress on the team’s objectives. The members have consciously or unconsciously agreed to abide by certain group norms and they are becoming functional at working together.

Stage 4: Performing

Relationships, team processes, and the team’s effectiveness in working on its objectives are synching to bring about a successfully functioning team. This is the stage at which the real work of the team is progressing.

Stage 5: Adjourning

The team is performing so well that members believe it is the most successful team they have ever experienced. The team has completed its mission or purpose and it is time for team members to pursue other goals or projects.
