Take a tour of your building on campus or at work. What is secured at night when workers are absent? Record the location and type of physical access control devices. How do these access controls change at night when workers are absent? How well trained do guards and other employees appear to be? Do they allow “piggybacking” (somebody slipping into a facility behind an authorized individual without being challenged)? What are the policies for visitors and contractors? How does this all impact physical security?

For any campus or building the most important thing is physical security. It plays a vital role as anyone should feel safe while working.

To Observe the physical security I have chosen a nearby company campus. I reached at company authorities and got the permission for visiting the campus and observe the security at the campus.

There was high security present on company campus gate. The security personnel was taking entries of all vehicles and individuals which are coming in and going out. Additionally the security gate was covered with three security cameras. So here, company has made this sure that there will not be any single individual who will be in the campus without company permission. Security personnel present there is noting these entries 24/7.

I found the company is pretty strict about the security norms. Wearing I card for employees, visitors and clients is strictly compulsory. For employees company has made sure that no one can do piggybacking as access is through the biometric. There is separate entrance for employees and visitors. For visitors/clients security personnel is issuing special access card with all details recorded. So whether it is day or night it does not matter, the access control is fully in company control. Access cards are getting deactivated after the recorded period in the card.

Company is also taking care about data theft. No person is allowed to bring in any electronic device except personal mobile phone company provided laptop. Most of the computers in company do not contain any usb port. The machines with usb ports have disabled usb ports.

Guards and employees are following all the security norms very strictly. As company has ruled out the possibility of “piggybacking” as such the physical security is adequate.

In a nut shell I found that this company is having excellent physical security making the environment safe workplace.
