The two videos showcase the importance of lean principles for the sustainable development. Both the videos focuses on standardization, waste management, easy access to the operators, reduce the assembly time, reduce in throughput time, accurate delivery time, organized workstations and quality of product design.

The first video “Lean Manufacturing Tour” focuses on the importance of Systemization, which is always important for any organization in the continuous improvement. Including the “importance of written operations manuals” consists of information about processes, procedures, quality & service, policies, job descriptions, routine checklists, etc. and these should be readily available when needed on the daily basis. These documents help in any type of process improvement and should be updated on the regular basis and should also be available in the software form. The more stress was given to keep the hardcopies of the document which should be accessible and convenient to all. Secondly, “100% system cleanliness” of the workplace by following the 5S lean principles (Sort, Set-in-order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain). Every workplace or department should be kept clean and organized with no clutter. This helps in first impression on customer and in orderly execution of the tasks or projects. To achieve this, the daily routine checklists plays an important role to complete the tasks on time and also managing the inventory of software helps in keep the license codes safe. Thirdly, waste management helps in keeping the cabinets organized and arranged in appropriate way. Overall, this helps in employee safety, keeping the employee morale higher, saving of time, and keeping the stock of right amount of resources. This helps in manufacturing the quality product, ease in managerial tasks and employee retention.

Whereas the another video on “Atlas Copco” also mentions about the lean manufacturing and how to bring value to the product produced by having no waiting time and quality of the product. It mentions about the design of the assembly lines based in the operators need and direct access given to the required material by them while working. This is achieved by following the sequencing principle, to arrange quality plate in such a way that only required material should lie on the plate and the use of wheels to move these required tools effortlessly (e.g. electric tools to offer right amount of torque needed with the bar code traceability).
