Question

Calculate the approximate boiling point of a mixture ofbromobenzene and water at atmospheric pressure. A table of vaporpressures of water and bromobenzene at various temperatures isgiven.

                          Vapor Pressure (mmHg)
Temp                Water                Bromobenzene

93                      588                       110
94                      611                       114
95                      634                       118

Please show me how to do this. This was a question in my lab , butthe lab book doesn't teach us how to do this. Please show workthank you!

Explanation / Answer

Theboiling point is the temperature at which the vapour pressure ofthe liquid equal to the atmospheric temperature.             The sum of the vapour prsures of the components in thegiven liquid mixture =   752 mm Hg at95oC which is very closer to the atmosphericpressure ( 760 mm Hg) . So the approximate boiling point of themixture is 95oC
