Yellow- 8, Purple-4, Green-5, brown-3

Be sure to answer all parts.

The circle at right represents a portion of a mixture of four gases: Gas A (purple), Gas B (brown), Gas C (green), and Gas D2 (orange).

(since i cant post the picture, ill expain it)

(a) Which gas has the highest partial pressure?
Gas A has the highest partial pressure
Gas B has the highest partial pressure
Gas C has the highest partial pressure
Gas D2 has the highest partial pressure

(b) Which gas has the lowest partial pressure?
Gas A has the lowest partial pressure
Gas B has the lowest partial pressure
Gas C has the lowest partial pressure
Gas D2 has the lowest partial pressure

(c) If the total pressure is 0.890 atm, what is the partial pressure of D2?

Explanation / Answer

a)

the gas with highest number of molecule will have highest partial pressure

yellow has highest molecule which is gas D2

Answer: Gas D2 has the highest partial pressure

b)

the gas with lowest number of molecule will have lowest partial pressure

brown has lowest molecule which is gas B

Answer:   Gas B has the lowest partial pressure

c)

partial pressure of D = number of D * total pressure / total molecule

= 8*0.890 atm / (8+4+5+3)

= 0.356 atm

Answer: 0.356 atm
