Question
The figure shows a rectangular, 27-turn coil of wire, of dimensions 12 cm by 6.1 cm. It carries a current of 0.10 A and is hinged along one long side. It is mounted in the xy plane, at an angle of 30° to the direction of a uniform magnetic field of magnitude 0.65 T. Find the (a) x, (b) y, and (c) z components of the torque acting on the coil about the hinge line.
I got -1.11x10^-2 Nm for B and got it correct, but for A, I got -1.97x10^-2 Nm and for C, I got -1.11x10^-2 Nm. I dont know what I am doing wrong
Explanation / Answer
Torque = (N * I * A ) X (B)
= - (27 * 0.10 * 0.12 * 0.061) k X (0.5629 i + 0.325 k)
= (0 i - 0.011089 j + 0 k) N.m
a) x component of the torque = 0 N.m
b) y component of the torque = - 0.011089 N.m
c) z component of the torque = 0 N.m
