Question

Consider the following figure. (Assume v =9.0 v, R_1 =7.00 Ohm, and R_2 =8.00 Ohm.) Is it possible to reduce the circuit shown in the figure above to a single equivalent resistor connected across the battery? Explain. Yes it is possible to reduce the circuit to a single equivalent resistor connect across the battery. The single resistor would equal the amount of the two resistors. Score: 4.76 out of 4.76 Find the current in the 7.00-Ohm resistor. Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10percentage. Double check your calculations. A Calculate the power delivered by the battery to the circuit. Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10percentage. Double check your calculations.

Explanation / Answer

b) Rnet = 7 + 3*8/(3+8) + 4

= 13.18 ohms

Current through battery or 7 ohms = V/Rnet

= 9/13.18

= 0.683 A

c) Power deliverd by the battery to the ckt, P = V*I (here I is the current through the battery)

= 9*0.683

= 6.14 W
