OMark Watkins and Colorado State University-March 1, 2018 Albert, Blaise and Charles are all seated on a sheet of (rictionless) ice at rest. Albert seated facing each other and on the count of three they put their hands together and other. After they are no longer in contact, Albert is moving at 1.2m/s Ih some mass is 60kg and Blaise's mass is 90kg, what is Blaise's speed after the push? fifteen (15) minutes to complete the is your own and that you had no and Slaise are push off of each direction. If Aibert's After a few moments Blaise is caught by Charles who is also seated at rest on the ice. If they continue moving together in the same direction at 0.5m/s, what is Charles's mass? If, during the collision between Blaise and Charles, Blaise experienced and average force of 270N how long did the 'collision' between Blaise and Charles last?Explanation / Answer
(a) Mass of albert mA = 60 kg
Mass of Blaise , mB = 90 kg
According to conservation of momentum
mAVA = mBVB
60*1.2 = 90*VB
VB = 0.8 m/s
(b) Now let charles mass is mC
since they were moving together therefore the final momentum
= (mB+mC)*0.5 = mB*0.8
(90+mC)*0.5 = 90*0.8
90+mC = 144
mC = 54 kg
(c) We know that
Impulse = force*time = change in momentum
270*t = (Final momentum - Initial momentum) = [(90+54)*0.5 - 0 ]
270*t = 72 - 0
t = 0.267 s
