Question

An object starts from rest and accelerates uniformily in astraight line in the positive x direction. After 11 seconds, itsspeed is 70.0 m/s. What is the acceleration of the object, how fardoes it travel in the first 11 seconds. What is the averagevelocity of the object during the first 11 seconds? The object continues to accelerate with the accelerationcomputed earlier for another 5 seconds, what is the velocity atthis time and the objects displacement at this time? I used a = v/t to get the acceleration, 70/11 = 6.36m/s.            d= vt to get 70 m/s x 11 m = 770m           Vf = d/t to get 70 m/s2 35 m/s            11s+5s =16s 16s x 70 m/s = 1120m     1120m - 770m/16s-11s= 350m/5s = 70 m/s           70 m/s x 16s =1120 m I am not sure of any of these questions. Explanation / Answer

   initial velocity, u = 0    final velocity, v = 70 m/s    time, t = 11 s    acceleration, a = ( v - u ) / t = 70 / 11 =6.36 m/s^2    displacement, S = [ ( u + v ) / 2 ] t =35 ( 11 ) = 385 m     Average velocity during first 11 s = ( u +v ) / 2 = 70 / 2 = 35 m/s    For next 5 s:    v = u + at = 70 + ( 6.36) 5 = 101.8 m/s    displacement ( only for next 5 s ) , s= [ ( u + v ) / 2 ] t = [ ( 70 + 101.8 ) / 2 ] 5 = 429.5m    Total displacement from the beginning = 385 +429.5 = 814.5 m
