Question
I want to analyse forces acting on a ski lift cable. The heightdifference is 300 meters. The horisontal distance travelled is 1700meters. Initially I thought about adding up the components of theforces caused by chairlifts on the length of the cable. But now I'mnot sure if I was going in the right direction. Now I don't evenknow how to approach the problem.Mainly I want to know how much tension is in the cable. And I wouldlike to know the moments on the poles that support the cablethruout and moments at the terminal points where the cable turnsaround.
