Question
Identify a social issue you are strongly opposed to. Then use the 4 stasis questions on page 22 of the textbook to dive deeper into the topic in a way that builds a solid arguement.
22 READING AND UNDERSTANDING ARGUMENTS STASIS QUESTIONS AT WORK Suppose you have an opportunity to speak at a student conference on the issue of global warming. You are tentatively in favor of strengthen- ing industrial pollution standards aimed at reducing global warming trends. But to learn more about the issue, you use the stasis questions to get started. Did something happen? Does global warming exist? No, say many in the oil and gas industry, at best, evidence for global warming is inconclusive. Yes, say most scientists and governments; global warming is real and has reached serious proportions. To come to your conclusion, you'll weigh the facts carefully and identify prob- lems with opposing arguments What is the nature of the thing? Skeptics define global warming as naturally occurring events; most scientists base definitions on human causes. You look at each definition carefully: How do the def nitions foster the goals of each group? What's at stake for each group in defining it that way? What is the quality or cause of the thing? Exploring the differing assessments of damage done by climate change leads you to ask who will gain from such analysis: Do oil executives want to protect their investments? Do scientists want government money for grants? Where does evidence for the dangers of global warming come from? Who benefits if the dangers are accepted as real and present, and who loses? What actions should be taken? If global warming is occurring natu rally or causing little harm, then arguably nothing needs or can be done. But if it is caused mainly by human activity and dangers action is definitely called for (although not everyone may agree on what such action should be). As you investigate the proposals being made and the reasons behind them, you come closer to developing your own argument. . Audiences for Arguments Exploring stasis questions will help you to think about the audience(s) you are addressing, from the flesh-and-blood person sitting across a desk when you negotiate a student loan, to your "friends" on social media, to the "ideal" person you imagine for what you are writing.Explanation / Answer
The social issue that I am completely opposed is “Corruption”.
Here, I want to make a solid argument in regard to the topic that I have selected above with the following strategies.
Strategy 1: Corruption exists in the society. Corruption is a way of bribing to accomplish the tasks that we are looking for. The government is on a serious concern in regard to this corruption. It is facing a lot of problems a lot of good and best employees are changing their hands from government to their allies. Corruption is mostly existed because of the discrimination existed in terms of wealth the people are having. And the eager to grow wealth for the personal growth. But, it takes a lot of time to eradicate this.
Strategy 2: It is very difficult and peculiar to predict the nature of corruption. It occurs when there is a lot of greed people in the government. Corruption can be predicted in different ways like bribing, giving property, giving gifts etc. It can occur suddenly as well. It depends on the nature of the people. So, that is why careful scrutiny will be done while selecting the best candidates for the particular requirements.
Strategy 3: There are so many problems that will occur due to this corruption in the society. Main problems will be losing the best employees, degrading the value of the government, decrease in the confidence level of the employees, cheating the government and people etc. will happen so easily that the society will be under critical problems.
Strategy 4: It is very crucial to eradicating this problem in the society. So many necessary steps have to be taken. It is the argument that can be solved only with the mindset of the people and government. Unless and until people are grown up with values to be procured to live in a society, the people will definitely face a lot of problems. Because the people only have formed the Government along with Army to protect themselves. If Government takes necessary decisions of following stringent decisions in regard to the processes of living in the society then definitely there will be a change in the manner the way the world progress.
