Identify a specific anxiety or one of the obsessive-compulsive related disorders (yes there is more than one) discussed in your text (i.e., GAD, Panic Disorder, OCD, Agoraphobia, etc.) and do some research (outside the textbook) to learn about this specific disorder. Briefly summarize the key symptoms and criteria for that disorder and how people are negatively affected.
Do not simply quote the reference- explain what you learned in your own words.
Discuss the impact that this disorder can have on a person's physical, emotional, and social well-being. You can also cite examples from the videos and case examples you read outside the course.
Be sure to cite your sources in APA format in your response.
Explanation / Answer
GAD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder refers to the uncontrollable, excessive and irrational worry about everything in one’s life such as health, money, family friendship etc. This disorder is characterized by tiredness, headaches, muscle tension, stomach upset etc. These physical symptoms will be furthered by sweating, restlessness, lack of sleep etc. but if only these symptoms exist for at least six months, it would be treated as GAD because normal people also experience this during trouble but once in a while.
One of the major setback for people with GAD would be their hesitation to act or do something because they will have the fear of failure and fear of the unknown. Second thing would be that they would make silly things as a huge problem by thinking negatively about it. They won’t have any friends because of their moody character as they would be crippled by their worries all the time. They won’t be able to focus on the task at hand and won’t perform well in their academic. Their job performance will be affected because they would always give negative feedback or talk negatively about the ongoing or future projects.
