Question
Calculate the theoretical yield in grams or milligrams for the product using the limiting reagent.
Given the following, "Add 5.8 mmol citral, 6 mL deionized water, and 84 mg guanidium chloride to the round bottom flask. Add 8.7 mmol sodium borohydride and let the reaction mixture stir.," I am unsure of how to calculate theoretical yield of the products starting with 5.8 mmol of citral assuming that is the limiting reagant. Please show me it written out.
Thank you so much for all of your help!
Citral O NaBH4, guanidium chloride THF, H20 40 °C Geraniol Nerol OHExplanation / Answer
1 mmol of citral = 152.24 mg
then for 5.8 mmol of citral = 152.24 x 5.8 = 882 mg
The geraniol or nerol molecular weight = 154.25
1mmol of citral 152.24 mg will give 154.25 g of geraniol or nerol
then for 882 g
by cross mutiplying = 882 x 154.25/152.24 = 893 mg of (geraniol + nerol)
