Question

Calculate the frequency (f) at which an inductor of inductance (L) 5.5 mN, a resistance (R) and a capacitor of capacitance (C) 11mu F, connected in an RLC series circuit, will have the same reactance? Calculate the impedance of the circuit, if resistance is 10 Ohm, at this resonant frequency? b). By increasing the frequency (f) at the input of an RLC series circuit, the reactance of inductor and capacitor will be affected or not? Explain your answer. a) Draw the path of proton (+q), negative charge (-q) and neutron (n) when they enter in the magnetic field as shown in the diagram. b) What is difference (path) in the and electron when they bend and why?

Explanation / Answer

2. Xc = XL

1 / (2 pi f C) = 2 pi f L

f^2 = 1 / (4 pi^2 L C )

f = 1 / 2 pi sqrt(5.5 x 10^-3 x 11 x 10^-6)

f = 647 Hz ........Ans

Impedance = sqrt[ R^2 + (xL - Xc)^2]

= sqrt[ 10^2 + 0^2]

= 10 ohm

(b) for inductor, reactance = XL = 2 pi f L

if f is increased then reactance of inductance will increase.

For capacitor, Reactance. Xc = 1/ (2 pi f C)

if f is increased then Xc will decrease.
